Talking Hands

May 27, 2016

I love watching designers talk. That moment when their eyes pass off, as their mind looks for a way to describe that intangible element of their creative process.

Hearing about their personal design journey - how they got started, the ups and downs of their careers, what makes them tick and how they approach problems. What led them to discover their own design ethos and fascination with creation, whether it be Naoto Fukasawa's application of the Super-Normal in everyday life, Paul Rand's sensitivity to the relation of form and content, or Jony Ive's deep understanding of care and wonder at the creative process - there are always little nuggets of design wisdom in there.

While I work, I love to learn and soak up as much creative wisdom as possible. Here are a few of my favourite talks in no particular order, from some of the most influential creatives in their fields.

Sir Jonathan Ive

Paul Rand (make sure not to miss part 2 and part 3)

Naoto Fukasawa (don't forget to turn on subtitles).

John Lasseter - (Interviewed by the great Michael Bierut of Pentagram)

Bjarke Ingels

Thomas Heatherwick

Plenty of brain food to keep you inspired.
